Eat yourself happy!

My plate - filled with high vibrating fruits and vegetables
My plate filled with high vibrating fruits and vegetables

As much as I love the holiday season and any celebrations that beautify and celebrate life, those festivities also take their tolls on my body and mind when it comes food. Overeating of traditional, mostly heavy food is often the norm and tradition. In addition, winter time is frequently associated with spending more time indoors, curling up on the sofa with high-carb foods and too many sugary snacks. In addition, cravings for starchy foods and chocolate are the worst for me during this time of the year. While it is true that such food choices often do keep us feel warmer and our tummies filled, they empty our minds and sadden our souls. However, you can eat yourself happy! Let me explain.

Since ancient times, metaphysicians have agreed that everything in and around us is energy. For those not familiar with this, I’ll be happy to elaborate on this another time. For the time being, just know that every person, animal, plant, and objects (yes that even includes the chair you are probably sitting on while you are reading this), are made of energy. Everything you see around you vibrates at a certain frequency. You vibrate at a specific frequency as well. Every cell in your body vibrates. Energy is life.

What has this to do with food? Because everything is made of energy, so is the food that you eat. In particular, it can be said that colorful fruits and vegetables vibrate on the higher end of the energy scale, while carbohydrates such as sugar vibrate on the lower scale. When you eat something, you absorb the energy and vibration of that particular food. This means that this energy merges with your own energy patterns.

What has this to do with happiness? You can eat yourself happy. Basically, what it means is this. When you vibrate higher, you are more likely to feel happier, healthier, more blissful and more loving. The reason is that these emotions and conditions can be found among higher frequencies, while negative states and feelings such as disease, depression and sadness, even anger and rage, vibrate on the lower end of the energy scale. This is exactly how I started to feel a few weeks ago. Furthermore, in recent weeks, my body has become sluggish and simply not as fit and strong as it could be.

I know that this condition is from the many comfort foods that I have enjoyed in recent months. I also know that my body, mind, and soul are literally begging me to feed them with nourishing, high-vibrating, and healthy food choices again. I love the feeling of being healthy, fit and happy. Who doesn’t? Therefore, I have made the decision to go vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free as much as possible during this lent season. My basket is filled with fruits, my fridge with veggies, and my body, mind, and soul will soon be overflowing with health and happiness again. I invite you to join me. Eat yourself happy.

In health and happiness,

Love,

Barbara

On inner Strength and Candy

Beautiful blossoms along the way from work nourish the soul.
Beautiful blossoms along the way from work nourish the soul.

Perhaps you remember my earlier post on my resolution to take better care of my body this year by making healthier food choices and letting my soul dance more. If not, you might want to read it to understand what I mean as I would like to inspire you today with my next step on this journey.

I used to look for ways to reward myself after a stressful day at work. While waiting for my commuter train on my way home, I would treat myself to several candy bars from the vending machine at the train station thinking that I would feel better. I started to literally look forward to my treat at the end of my work day while still at work. I found all kinds of excuses to eat candy bars as well as other snacks from that machine and made sure that I always had enough coins (and the right ones) with me.

While I thought that the chocolate and sugar would make me happier, relaxed, and feed my soul, the actual ingredients damaged by body uncontrollably by eventually making me overweight, as heavy as I had never been before, and sick. Furthermore, I was still unhappy and sad about many aspects of my life. Finally, at the end of last year, I realized that I had to do something about my health. Since then I have shed almost 30 pounds through tracking my food, exercise, reading books, and listening to hypnosis recordings to try to change my patterns. The latter has just started working in the most miraculous way I can imagine.

I recently had a tough and long day. I really fought the craving and urge to eat at least one candy bar. The old me kept saying: “Eat one, just one!” However, the new me resisted. I had to walk by the vending machines really fast to get away as quickly as possible. My eyes focused on the yummy candy inside when my new me said: “These won’t make you happy, but music or a video will do.” I almost ran downstairs to the platform in order to get away from those vending machines. Sitting on the train, while searching the Internet, I came across a very inspirational video, which indeed lifted me up like no candy ever could!
By the time I came home, I no longer even thought of any sugar and had a healthy dinner instead. Writing this after dinner sipping relaxing tea, I am not just happy. I am proud of myself and grateful for how far I have come. I am on my way to normal weight. My new me cannot wait to pass those candy bars easily tomorrow thanks to my inner strength and what those candy bars taught me.

A good reminder of gratitude

Dear friends,

A new morning
A new morning

I have never been a morning person. I can barely get up every morning no matter what time it is. Morning, however, is actually probably the most important time of the day for one thing. No matter how tired I am, I make sure that I do one thing.

As I slowly awake, I open my eyes. I have a photo of a loved one which I love to wake up to and see first thing in the morning. Seeing my loved one makes me grateful. As I gently touch her cheek, I thank God that we are both still alive and healthy. I thank God that I have eyes, that my eyes are healthy and I can see my loved one on that photograph. Next, I stretch and realize that I still have all my limbs, that my muscles allow me to move them and that the connection to my brain works seamlessly. Next, I listen to the news. As I listen, I realize that I have ears that enable me to hear the speaker.

As I gradually get up, I remember Dr. Maya Angelou. She used to make sure that everyone understood how important it is to be grateful, especially when getting up in the morning. Waking up, getting dressed, having breakfast, and rushing out the door to go to work or school every morning might sound or be like a routine for you and it is easy to understand why many people would take this routine for granted.

However, allow me to remind you that there are people who passed away during their sleep last night, people whose health conditions do not enable them to see, hear, or get up without help and people who simply wished they could see another day and another morning. This is why I make sure that I do one thing in the morning. No matter how tired I might be, I make sure to be grateful and express this gratitude to God, the universe, my fate and destiny. Seeing people who are not this fortunate are a good reminder that we cannot take our lives and our health for granted.

May your eyes open in the morning and show you your loved ones and our beautiful world. May gratitude fill your hearts and may you have a wonderful morning.

This post is dedicated to you, Krissy.  A single instant changed your young body and soul forever. Now seemingly in hospice, my prayers for you continue and, while I still hope for a miracle, it saddens me that you might not see another morning. I love you.

A good reminder to be grateful tomorrow morning.

Love, Barbara
